The hat consists of a rounded cap that sits towards the front of the head, supported by an \"O\" ring attached the inside back as shown in the photos. The beauty and creativity of this hat is enhanced by the pressed felt \"birds\" made of the same felt, but are stiff to hold their shape. There is also a small feather “butterfly” on top of the hat. Only 1 of it’s antennas are still present. Pressed felt \"birds\", \"leaves\" or \"flowers\" were an art in the era, and wooden molds were available to press pieces of felt into interesting figures. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
